So todays topic is about a very amazing woman indeed by the name of Elysia Doody.
Elysia started a blog called "Strong over Skinny" which follows her weight training journey as well as sharing her knowledge about nutrition, mental health and training tips.
I met Elysia a few months ago as we train in the same gym, RAW.
When I joined RAW I was really intimidated as I didn't know what kind of training to do or how to use any of the equipment.
Proper deer in the headlights.
I saw Elysia doing awesome deadlifts and squats and suddenly figured out that that was the type of training I wanted to do.
Since then I've been training hard and hope to be at her level some day.
Elysia started the Strong Over Skinny blog to educate women about the benefits of weight training, encourage the idea of focusing on getting mentally and physically strong for overall health rather than focusing on getting skinny.
"I have learned that getting strong, fit and healthy can be fun and enjoyable and I want to share my highs and lows, ups and downs and strengths and weaknesses with you.
When we spend too much time focusing on getting skinny; endless hours of cardio, fad diets, false advertisements, false promises or how fast or slow the numbers on the scales move we tend to get disheartened, resent exercise and feel as though we are at wars with our bodies".
So here is Elysias interview:
Love is..........hugs, kisses and the sparkle in your life.
Beauty is..........found even in stormy weather.
Beauty is..........found even in stormy weather.
There is a place in Dingle Co. Kerry that we go to every year.
It’s a little inlet off the coast, a small beach with lots of rocks.

We purposely go on rainy, stormy days to see the waves crash up against the rocks.
It's so amazingly breathtaking to watch.
I should be..........in a straight jacket! (lol).

I have always been told that I was quirky.
I come out with random things and can sometimes be seen dancing around my apartment in my underwear.
I love when..........I get a PB (Personal Best) on my lifts (Squat, Bench or Dead lift).
It’s the most empowering feeling in the world.
If I was a bird..........I would crap on everyone (told you I should be in a straight jacket!).

Dance to the beat of..........your own drum.
Be unashamedly you.
It took me a while to be OK with being myself and not worrying about what other people thought.
We're often prisoners of our own fear of what people think.
Get naked and dance in your living room, who cares.
I wish I had written.........a book.
4 years later I’m still writing it but it will be out in the great big world some day.
Watch this space...
I always find myself..........getting into debates about whether unicorns existed.
I mean, if a Rhino and a Whale can have a horn in their skull surely a horse can?!?!
I’m sure there is a painting in a cave or some fossil we haven’t found yet that proves it.
My heart skips a beat when..........Matthew McConaughey is on the TV.
I'm afraid of..........failing.
I put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything well but we all know that's hard to do.
I used to fear big weights on my back for fear of missing a lift.
Now I embrace it with confidence because it's not failure, it's feedback.
We learn from all of our fears and failures.
I look up to.........people who are strong.
Not just physically but mentally strong people.
People who have real struggles, who have fought every day and continue to fight for what they want out of life.
The way to my heart is.........pygmy hippos, pygmy goats, baby lambs, Ben and Jerry’s, chocolate covered Brazil nuts, singing in the rain, pink stuff, dirty dancing and rapping to Coolio’s Gangstas Paradise!
The colour pink makes me feel..........happy.

I am always in pink even my blog is colour scheme is pink.
If it's pink and shiny I want it.
You know what really grinds my gears?
People who use the word “can’t”.
“I can’t lift that weight , I can’t run that far , I can’t eat that stuff, I can’t lose that weight”.
ANYTHING is possible if you put your mind to it and the best thing about it is the power to do it lies with YOU.
