"The struggle continues......"

Over the past few weeks I've been making my way through the documentary section on Netflix and I've discovered some really amazing and powerful ones.
My other half had been flicking through the menu a few days back and found one called "Call me Kuchu".
He saved it and said it looked like something I'd be interested in and he was right.
So this morning over breakfast I put it on and a whirlwind of emotions ensued.

"Call me Kuchu" follows the relentless and horrific journey of a group of Ugandan LGBT Activists.
They are desperately trying to fight for their human rights and to be treated as equals in a society where being gay is illegal.
They are also forced to stand up against the Ugandan media who are trying to incite violence against them.
Primarily they are up against a Ugandan newspaper called "The Rolling Stone" who are constantly printing pictures of people they know or who they think to be gay and encouraging that they be jailed and hanged.
They also compiled a list of the "Top 100 Gays" with pictures including the area where they lived!
Horrific!

Above is the amazing David Kato with his Mother.

These people are being treated as criminals, are being subjected to violence/hate crimes on a daily basis, are in constant fear of their lives and all in the name of their sexual preference.
I find it absolutely absurd that people dedicate their entire lives and waste all of their energy in trying to destroy the lives of gay people all in the name of God and what they "believe" is right.
I don't know the Bible off by heart but I'm pretty sure there is no mention of the gay community in it.
I think God was busy with much more important matters instead of focusing on who's dating who!

"The Rolling Stone" newspaper inciting violence against the LGBT.

The main cause of hate against the gay community in Uganda is rooted in their strong religious beliefs and their lack of basic understanding.
They fail to see that being gay isn't a choice, it's just who they are and how they've always been.
It scares me to think that in this day and age where kids are using iPads in school and they've even discovered how to grow meat in a labratory, humans still lack understanding for one another and a basic sense of humanity.

I find it insanely ironic that the pastors/general church folk are inciting such hate against the LGBT community when the basic fundamentals of God is supposed to be one of understanding, of love and of human compassion.
The LGBT are forced to fight for their right to exist in Ugandan society and unfortunately they're not winning.

With 95% of the Ugandan society completely brainwashed to believe that gay people are putting families, children and communities at risk, how do the LGBT stand a chance?
The contrast between the calmness, persistence and strength of the LGBT community against the hate and violence of the holy rollers will blow your mind.
At times it's incredibly upsetting to watch but it truly has to be seen to be believed.
I could go on and on as it's something I feel very strongly about but you can check out the trailer below.
