My top 5 MAC "might-not-be-able-to-live-withouts" Part I.

Hey guys,

Well I've had this post in the back of my mind for the past few weeks so here it goes.
I'm a big fan of MAC for a number of reasons:

  • They offer a great range of products to both Makeup Artists and Makeup lovers alike.
  • They have a full colour range in all of their foundations, concealers and powders.

  • Their products are affordable, approachable and easy to use.
In Ireland the majority of their products sell from between €18-€35 which is pretty reasonable.
  •  They have some great Pro products for Makeup Artists some of which I'm going to chat about below.

 1: Face and Body.

There are very few products in the makeup world that work as hard as Face and Body.
It's a true multi-tasker.
I use it alot on photoshoots when the client/model has good skin because as it's such a sheer foundation it has little to no coverage.
It's also great for exposed arms, hands and legs to hide the fact that the model is probably freezing her butt off.
Spring Summer shoots tend to be shot in the middle of Winter which can be a bit of a nightmare so Face and Body can help you out.

It comes in a large bottle that will last you about a year depending on how often you use it.
It's also available in around 16 shades which is great, 6 pink tones and 12 yellow toned.
The only negative thing I can say about it is that the shade C1 ,which is supposed to be the lightest yellow toned shade, is actually quite dark in colour so sometimes you might need to mix it with a white.
Apart from that, I can't complain.

2: Face and Body in White : Pro Product.

Now this is one of those products that when you don't have it, you obsess over all of the things you could use it for.
Then when you do have it, you are terrified of the day when it will run out.
My solution is to keep two spare bottles of it in the fridge to prevent them from going off.
I've had white cream foundation in the past but they don't mix very well with liquid foundations.
White Face and Body is great for lightening the shade of a foundation or to use on it's own to create a super pale complexion.
Same as above it comes in a large bottle and lasts forever.
The only negative is that it is only available in Pro MAC Stores so if you are in New York or London, I suggest you pick a few up.

3: Chromaline

I find it hard to communicate exactly how much I love these little jars of cream colour perfection.
They are like a mix between a cream shadow and a cream liner.
They are available in all of the primary colours as well as a few others thrown in for good measure.
They are just such a pleasure to work with and the pigment leaves nothing to be desired.
I would mainly use them for fashion and beauty shoots when some intense colour is desperately needed.
Again they are a Pro product so they are only available in Pro MAC Stores but at around €21, they're a steal.
The only advice I would give it make sure you always close the lid super tight because if they are open to air for any amount of time they will dry up and crumble to nothing which is rather a sad sight.

4: Studio Fix spray.

This is one of those great products that I always have in my set bag because it always comes in useful.
It can be used for a number of different things but I mainly use it to refresh the skin if it's growing a bit tired looking.
Ok let me set the scene : I've spent a good hour creating a beautifully fresh makeup look for a photoshoot but the photoshoot has gone on for 8hours so the makeup has passed it's peak.
The first shot and the last shot are just as important as each other so you want the makeup to look consistenly great throughout.
Solution?
Spray a few spray of Studio Fix directly on the skin or else spray it on a small powder brush and lightly buff it over the makeup to give it an extra least of life.
Another great thing is it feels great for the client/model so it's a win win situation.
As far as I remember it sells for around €18 which is a bargain considering how long it lasts.

5: Mineralize pressed powder.

I was only introduced to these face powders about a year ago and I'm so grateful that I was.
BM (before Mineralize) I only ever used loose powders, mainly the Prep and Prime  powder which I still use sometimes.
I had never gotten to play around with pressed powders so naturally I was a bit scared of them but now I use them all the time.
I personally like to apply them with either a small blender eyeshadow brush or a very small powder brush, depending on how I'm feeling.
It keeps the skin looking natural but takes away any unwanted shine.
It's available in a range of shades to suit all skin tones and sells for around €28 as far as I remember.

Well they're some of my MAC "might-not-be-able-to-live-withouts", what are yours?

C.
