Hey guys,
Well on Friday evening I felt totally privileged to be in the company of Jimmy Eat World.
I've never been a "favourite band" kind of girl but I look at it like this:
I literally listen to Jimmy Eat World every single day and have for a very long time so if I was to have a favourite band, they would definitely be up there.
This was the first gig in a while that I've actually been borderline uncomfortably excited about.
It's crazy to think that I've been listening to a band for 10 years and had never seen them play live until just the other day.
Well I was not disappointed.
I was actually completely blown away and still am as I sit here listening to "Big Casino".
From the second they came on stage, the band gave 100% and the set list was perfection.
As a band, they're such great performers and really were so thankful to the crowd for coming along.
It's pretty rare that a band can still be that talented and nice 20 years on.
Every time they played an older track from "Bleed America", the crowd went nuts.
It was amazing!
I actually found it quite hypnotising watching the main man, Jim Adkins perform.
You can tell that even after all of these years, he still loves performing and gets such a rush from being on stage.
He really puts his heart, soul and his entire being into each and every song.
The way he moves around the stage is so great to watch and he gets a bit of Elvis leg action going in some of the songs.
Awesome!
Awesome!
For a man nearing his 40th year, he still looks the exact same way he did twenty years ago.
You're doing something right Jim!
I only have two negatives about the gig.
1: The support band left a whole lot to be desired (the less said the better).
&
2: Jimmy didn't play one of my favourites "Higher Devotion".
You're forgiven this time guys because the rest of the set was so awesome.
One of my best gigs of all time for sure.
I have one point I want to make though.
We live in a technology dominated culture.
I get that.
We find it unbearable to experience anything without having to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Instablah etc..
I get it.
I have done it too.
We all have.
But what I witnessed at Jimmy was the most ridiculous thing.
While the band were playing, the majority of the crowd were busy on Facebook, Emails, Twitter etc.
And what's even worse?
People taking selfies.
Really?
Like really?
You paid €25 to come to an awesome gig that you're paying no attention to because you are too absorbed in your phone?
Good God.
Whatever happened to it being considered rude using your phone while at a gig?
Bring back a bit of that good old common decency please!
The worst was the guy who was sitting directly in front of me.
He was distractingly annoying playing with his phone that was about the size of a cornflake box.
He was looking up the bands set list online.
While they were playing.
Like seriously?
You couldn't wait a few minutes to find out for yourself the good old fashioned way?
By listening?
Unbelievable.
Anyway I just must have been in a bad spot so I'll let it go.
For now....
At the end of the day, it was such an awesome gig and I'm more in love with the band than ever.
I hope you guys enjoy your European, American tour and overall world domination and come back soon!
C.
