"A Memoir" by Grace Coddington.

Well over the last few weeks I have made a conscious decision to spend more time with my head in a book than staring at my laptop.

The feeling you get when you're reading an amazing book is a feeling like none other.
I can't handle those eBook reader things though.

I think they make a ton of sense mind you : books are cheaper to download then to buy, you don't have the bother of finding somewhere to store them etc.
I think that's all great but I just think you can't beat reading a physical book.
The turning and the smell of the pages, the excitement you feel as you near the end etc.
I just wouldn't get the same amount of happiness from staring at a tablet thingy.

So over the last few weeks I have gone on journeys with the likes of Diana Vreeland, Frances Bacon and my most recent one was with the amazing Grace Coddington.

Grace is the type of woman I would love to go for a coffee with and just pick her brain for a while.
She has had such an interesting life to date and to this day, she continues to create truly beautiful work.
She began modelling as a teenager in the 1960's and went on to become one of Vogues favourite cover girls.
She then went on to work for British Vogue as a Junior Editor and ultimately ventured Stateside to American Vogue where she has remained an Editor ever since.

I found the first half of this book most interesting.
Grace has a beautiful way of describing where she grew up in Wales and the adventures she would take in her sailboat as a child.
The sketches that she created throughout the book are amazing and so accurate to who/what she was describing.
The drawings kind of reminded of me the books I read as a teenager written by Jacqueline Wilson which made it extra enjoyable to read.
She takes you through her relationships, her love of fashion and her fascination with her cats.
I found her stories about the editorials she worked on in the 1970's/1980's most interesting.

The chapter I wasn't so keen about was the section where she is talking about working at American Vogue.
I think she tried to paint it as a "shiny happy people" place which we all know it isn't.
It was just a very "name dropping-y" section and I found rather dull and read through it as quick as I could.

Apart from that section, I really enjoyed the rest.
It's a really interesting read and I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

It is available from Book Depository website for €24.00 and they offer free shipping worldwide.
