But I'm your biggest fan!

Have you ever tried using a Mascara Fan Brush?

No I'm not crazy and no I haven't started using crack, it actually exists.
There's a makeup brush you can use to apply your mascara instead of using the wand provided.
Why would you want to do that you say?
Well read on.....

Here she is, ain't she a beaut?
This brush looks like a something you would use for painting but that's pretty much what you're gonna use it for now aren't you.

I've only ever used synthetic versions of this brush which is great for two reasons:

1 : Synthetic brushes tend to work better with cream/liquid products and they blend like a dream.

2 : More importantly you know that there are no bald squirrels freezing their little butts off in the trees because you needed a new makeup brush.
No animals are harmed in the manufacturing of synthetic brushes so it's a win win!

So why are these little brushes good to have?
Well in general I would mainly use them on fashion/beauty shoots when I want to create a slightly different effect on the lashes.
For regular clients/makeups I would usually just use some mascara wands (disposable ones of course) as they're quick, easy to use and you can create a dramatic looking lash in a matter of moments.
I think the "normal" way of applying mascara is great and all but you can also do it a bit differently if you want to create a softer look.

On some shoots I would either:

-Not apply any mascara at all (which is one of my favourite things to do).

-Apply a small amount just on the tips of the lashes.
 or
-Go all out and create a really heavy clumpy looking lashes.
All can do done with this little brush.

So if you want to apply the smallest amount of mascara possible, I would recommend using one of the these brushes over a mascara wand.
You can still create a small amount of definition around the eyes without having a "fully brushed" or "over done" looking lashes.

This was from a shoot I did for the last issue of BASH Magazine where I applied the smallest amount of mascara with a fan brush and I really love the result.
"As soft and as little as possible" is what I always have in the back of my mind when I'm creating a look.

And you know what's even more awesome???
These brushes sell for like €3 so you can go nuts and get a few of them for less than a tenner.
My favourites are from Crownbrush and Royal & Langnickel.

This is the Silk Lash Fan BC525 from Royal & Langnickel which sells for £2.55.

So if you want to try something a bit different why not give one of these guys a go!
