"When Vogue met Dali...."

Todays post is dedicated to Salvador Dali, a prominent Spanish surrealism Artist born in 1904.

I was first introduced to the work of Dali a few years ago by my old tattoo guy.
He did quite alot of my pieces over the years and had a serious obsession with this guy.
A proper obsession.
One that makes you border line uncomfortable but it's kind of amazing at the same time.

I have been reading the autobiography of Elsa Schiaparelli who is one of the most influential figures in the history of fashion.
She was the first one to use shoulder pads in her garments, animal prints and she truly believed that designing garments was an art form.

I was so excited to find out that Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali crossed paths and they collaborated on a few designs.
Here are some of their creations.

It's hard to believe that these pieces were created 80-90 years ago.
Through my research, I went on to discover that Dali painted quite a few covers for Vogue in the 1930's and 1940's.
These images kind of take my breath away.

This was in the time before colour photographs, celebrity culture as we know it today and incessant advertising.
I wish that Vogue would bring back an element of their old covers but I understand the commitments they have to fill in terms of their advertising, the need for celebrities etc.

We can still dream though right?
