Killing Joke

It would appear that I'd fallen into a common music trap that countless others have also been victim to.
I'd heard of the band Killing Joke on numerous occasions and even saw people wearing their merchandise but do you think I would bother to give them a listen?
Nope.
Never thought to actually look them up.
Anyway....

The band was suddenly brought back into the front of my mind when I saw a roadie at a City and Colour gig recently wearing one of their hoodies.
Finally I thought to check them out and I'm so glad I did.
My boyfriend described them as having the attitude of a punk band without necessarily sounding like one.
Sounds like a bit of a conundrum now doesn't it?
But after doing a bit of research and listening to a few of their albums, he was actually spot on.

Killing Joke originally got together in 1978 in London, England.
Their early music has been described in so many different ways but this is how I'd put it:
It's like a beautiful mix between The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Ramones, an element of the Clash and a bit of something all of their own.
Their songs are quite political and represent alot of what was going on in the world in the 1980's.
I really respect their music for it's honesty and lyrical intelligence.
Their punk element shines through as they were musically "fighting the system" and standing up for their generation and for the generations to come.

As the years passed their sound developed and turned into something much darker.
From 2000 onwards, they've been regarded more as an industrial rock/punk/metal band and are noted as being a huge influence on bands like Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails.
The line-up over the years has changed alot with only the singer, Jaz Coleman, and the guitarist, Georgie Walker, being the only two original members still playing in the band.

Considering they've been together for nearly 40 years and the fact that they've stayed true to their message and to themselves deserves a huge amount of respect.
I've been listening to them non-stop and below are a few of my favourites.
