Today I'm putting the ultimate luxe cosmetic brand Yves Saint Laurent up against the high street super power Rimmel.
Brace yourselves because this could get ugly.
Brace yourselves because this could get ugly.
Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Mascara
Well this mascara pretty much promises to do everything except make you breakfast in the morning.
I'm going to avoid using any of their marketing "buzz words" or my head might explode from all the nonsense.
It promises 24HR wear, defined lashes, volume, the meaning of life etc etc etc.
And as with all YSL cosmetics, the packaging is really pretty and glamorous.
Timeless is probably the best description.
But unfortunately what lies inside the nice packaging is totally bog standard.
Everything it promises to do is what every billy basic mascara is supposed to do.
Coats every lash, adds volume, intense colour etc?
I personally haven't come across a mascara that didn't do these things, have you?
Ok maybe a pound shop mascara but that doesn't count!
Alot of emphasis has been put on its rubber bristled applicator which in all honesty is quite nice.
What is also quite nice is the fact that Max Factor have a nearly identical one for their "Masterpiece" mascara but there is one crucial difference.
About €20.
Good to know right?
Yves Saint Laurent
Overall verdict?
Well, if you have €32.50 you want to get rid of, you could definitely give this one a go.
If I was you though, I would give it a miss and buy some jewellery or something pretty instead.
I think Yves Saint Laurent have some really amazing products.
Unfortunately this just isn't one of them.
Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara
Ok let me be completely honest here for a minute.
The first time I bought this mascara, I only bought it because it was the cheapest one I could find.
Less than €7 as far as I remember.
On this ocassion, I had €10 to my name and desperately needed a mascara for my kit.
I bought it but expected absolutely nothing.
And you know what?
It was one of the best mascaras I have ever tried.
It does everything a mascara is supposed to do:
It defines and separates the lashes, has strong pigment, doesn't flake and you only need to use a very small amount.
Sorted.
The only bad thing I could possibly say is that when you apply it to your lashes, it can go on a tiny bit thick.
I usually just brush it through with a clean mascara wand and it's perfect
I absolutely love this mascara and I pretty much always have it in my kit.I usually buy about 10 at a time so I never run out.
So the moral of the story is:
Just because something costs alot, doesn't mean its worth anything.
